Simmtronics to Ship SimmBook with IBM Client

Simmtronics Semiconductors has entered into a global agreement with IBM Corp. to preload IBM Client for Smart Work software solution in the Simmbook on Ubuntu operating system. This includes Lotus Symphony office productivity software, which is made available at no charge to Simmbook customers.
Under the agreement, both the companies will execute a joint marketing plan and work closely on the sales opportunities for Simmbook with IBM Client for Smart Work on Ubuntu globally. "We launched Simmbooks based on the high demand for netbook type devices in enterprises worldwide. Delivering Simmbooks with IBM Client for Smart Work on Ubuntu will help our customers lower their total cost of ownership and be on the forefront of innovation," said Indrajit Sabharwal, managing director, Simmtronics Semiconductors Limited.
"Today's announcement of IBM Client for Smart Work now delivered on Simmbooks further advances IBM s commitment to delivering more value to clients who were previously locked into other desktop solutions," said Kevin Cavanaugh, IBM vice president of messaging and collaboration. "We realize that clients like choice -- whether it s choosing the delivery model for IBM Client for Smart Work or choosing the type of office productivity editors, like Lotus Symphony, a rich client alternative offered free of charge without the worry of vendor lock-in." The Simmbook is powered by Intel Atom processor, which delivers the performance needed for enjoying popular applications like emailing, web surfing and instant messaging.
Designed specifically for mobile computing needs, Simmbook provides the power of a full-sized laptop in a compact body. Powered by 1.6 Ghz Intel Atom processors, Intel Generation 3.5 Integrated GFZ Core Graphic VGA, the Simmbook puts it in a class of its own. Featuring in Black, Blue and Red color chassis, it comes with 10.2-inch LCD screen with 1024x600 resolutions. This Piano Finish Simmbook has 160 GB SATA HDD and it can support up to SATA HDD 500 GB. 1GB DDR2 667MHz Memory is standard with Simmbook. In addition to that, it can also support DDR2 667/533 MHz and has one SO-DIMM DDR2 memory slot that supports up to 2GB with high density memory technology module. The built-in 2 speakers with HD Audio provide a soothing experience to the ear and it has an internal Microphone.
Simmbook comes integrated with one PCI-E interface that supports 802.11 B/G, 1.3 Mega-pixel PC Camera, 10/100 M Ethernet Controller, Audio / video port, LAN port, three USB ports and supports operating systems like Windows XP SP2, Ubuntu 9.10 and Windows 2007. Weighs about 1.2 kg with 3 cell Li-ion battery pack, Simmbook also provides the option to opt for six-cell Li-ion battery pack. Simmbook is available globally through Simmtronics offices and distributors.
