Sony Ericsson Expands Tieup With Ingram

By ChannelTimes Staff
Bangalore, Jan 4, 2006

Sony Ericsson today announced the expansion of its nationwide sales distribution network by adding Ingram Micro as the second national distribution partner, along with Salora International.
Ingram, which till now was operating only in the eastern and western markets for Sony Ericsson, has been added to address the mobile handset market on a national footprint from January 2006 as a strategic move toward widening reach and servicing the increasing demand for Sony Ericsson mobile phones, the company said in a press release.

Speaking on the significance of this development, Sudhin Mathur, general manager, Sony Ericsson, India, said, "With the enhanced portfolio of products across segments that we have to offer from the start of 2006, now is the right time to consolidate and further on the inroads we made into the booming market last year. This tieup is aimed at taking the next step towards making a Sony Ericsson handset available to even the farthest consumer in the country. The expansion would help us gain increased market presence and would lead to a wider purchase choice for the end consumer."

Post this expansion, the company will have a presence in upwards of 15,000 retail outlets.

The company will now operate through these two national distributors apart from their tieup with Sony India, which provides presence in the retail network of Sony Worlds and Sony Exclusive stores.
What do you think of Sony-Ingram partnership?

Ingram, once had Samsung Mobiles as National and even as South Asia, then they got reduced regional level and then more or less at state level and finally they lost the business. now looks like they are taking sony to play as National players. Hey c'mon, do they have enough resources to be a National Distributor for Mobiles. Dear Channels watch out, dont take another big fish along with u
