The newly-announced alliance between Sun Microsystems and Emerson Network Power in India is likely to give impetus to their respective channel partners. The alliance will allow partners to work together, and share the same ecosystem for their new offering, Sun Modular Datacenter (Sun MD).
Elaborating more on it, R Vasudevan, VP (Enterprise Solution), Emerson Network Power, said, "Globally, our partners are already working with Sun Microsystems' partners. We will continue the same trend in India and in other emerging markets, as we grow together with Sun Microsystems. This partnership is aimed at combining the expertise of both Sun Microsystems and Emersion to provide customers with a world-class solution in the datacenter space."
According to the company, the partnership will be expanded phase-wise in India. In the first phase, the duo will target verticals like telcos, defense, infrastructure and government agencies that are looking to expand their datacenter capacity regardless of location. In the second phase, they will involve over 40 large enterprise partners and system integrators (SIs) to start volume business.
Venkatesh Krishnan, Director (System Practice), Sun Microsystems, said, "India is one of the key emerging markets for Sun Microsystems, and it is offering double digit year-on-year (Y-o-Y) growth. Despite the economic slowdown, Sun will continue to invest in emerging markets and growth of channel partners. The dual partners will go under training and certification seamlessly. We believe Emerson strong channel base will boost the sale of our new solution, and it will be a win -win experience for both the partners."
Emerson has divided its distribution model into three broad categories on the basis of partners' competency and reach. It has 50 exclusive large enterprise partners, 30 network solution providers and more than 1000 value added resellers (VARs).
"For new datacenter solution, we will further nurture the sale and technical skills of our large enterprise partners and leverage on their key customers," added Vasudevan.
