Syndicate Bank Selects Fortinet UTM Solution
By

Mumbai, Jul 14, 2007
Fortinet - the provider of Unified Threat Management (UTM) solutions - announced the deployment of 4 FortiGate-5020 ATCA compliant enterprise-class multi-threat security systems, 4 FortiGate 5001 blades and 1 FortiManager 400 by Syndicate Bank to protect its core banking systems and its nationwide network of 2,200 branches and Automated Teller Machines (ATMs).
"Syndicate Bank is a breakthrough project for us in India in terms of its size and scope and also because the deployment is to protect mission-critical, performance-sensitive banking systems," said Andre Stewart, vice president (EMEA) of Fortinet.
The Fortinet solution was deployed by systems integrator Wipro Infotech at Syndicate Bank's data center in Mumbai and disaster recovery site in Bangalore, India.
According to the company, the Bank's IT team had evaluated solutions from Check Point and Cisco before deciding on Fortinet's FortiGate-5000 Series chassis-based security systems and FortiManager management and monitoring solution. Fortinet's true UTM solution offered a larger range of features, superior performance, easier administration and scalability to better meet the growing needs of the Bank.
Fortinet's FortiGate-5000 Series of modular, chassis-based systems are the first to comply with the Advanced Telecom Computing Architecture (Advanced or ATCA) standard and provide multi-gigabit performance and integrated multi-threat protection - ideal for securing high-bandwidth enterprise networks. The systems offer an array of essential security applications and services, including firewall, antivirus, VPN, intrusion prevention, Web content filtering, anti-spam, Instant Messaging and Peer-to-Peer controls, and traffic shaping.
Syndicate Bank is the first public-sector bank in India to implement UTM as the principal security technology for its core network and banking systems.
