Tally Plans to Enter ERP Market in March

By Sharmee Roy
New Delhi, Feb 18, 2006

After the introduction of multilingual version of its software, Tally (India) is all set to enter the ERP market in March with Tally Ascent.

The entire ERP solution will be priced at approx Rs 2,43,000 in the market and has already about 300-plus enterprise customers for its ERP solution, according to Anil Pant, vice president, head-South Asia Sales.

The company, which claims to enjoy a market share of 93 percent, intends to ramp up its presence in the country with the addition of new partners to its existing force of 6,000-plus resellers. "We plan to increase our presence from the present 200 cities to about 400 in the next 40 days and increase the reseller count to 11,000. And since more than 50 percent of PC growth is fueled by B and C class cities, we will add about 2,000 partners in the upcountry markets," informed Pant.

In addition to this, the company is also tying up with Xenitis and other local manufacturers in other regions to provide various bundled offers.

"This year is a year of consolidation for us. Last year our revenues were in the range of Rs 200 crore and this year with the consolidation plan we are aiming for Rs 250 crore revenue," Pant added
What do you think of Tally's foray into ERP?

I find the claims made by Anil to be far fetched. Where did he get the figure of 93% from??? Extrapolating the success of a low-end accounting package to a high-end ERP package is going to be difficult for Tally. For all its claims, Tally remains a low-end product which is bought by people/companies to cater to their basic accounting requirements. If tally has the cash to sustain itself in the ERP market for the next 5 years and develop its product incrementally then only it could come under the consideration set of the CXO's.

I agree with Suri from USA. Selling a software and implementing it successfully to the full satisfaction of the customer are two different aspects. Tally started taking full money for the ERP right from Mar 2006 promising delivery by May 06 and even now ( July 06) there is no news about exact delivery date. What kind of promise is this? Even the marketing people at Bangalore send the same stuff as it appears on their website. Dont the custome know what you are saying on your website? If Tally wants to be a professional global company, then it has to behave like a global company. Keep up the promises.

we have seen SAP ERP packages but their implementaion takes at least 2 to 3 years by that time most of the person involved were left from the organisation. In other words SAP implementation practical difficult for indian condtion where changes are quite often and software cost, hardware cost, pepopleware + annualy maintanance charges and retaining of good people is very expensive. So I am sure that Tally ERP will take a lion share in this area also. We request the company to take training for people who are well aware tally and erp system .The profession know in Tally is limited to city level also. Most of the tally vendors are not aware of VAT,TDS,TCS Service Tax Etc.

ERP at 243000/- for which module and what sizeof the organisation? Im sure this is just a entry level and they are focussing on SME. But SME will not spend this amount? I remember Mr.Pant had/has his own ERP co in North india and now he must be taking the Tally route to sell Volumes, but im sure it will be difficult in front of SAP and Oracle. However can send more details if you are looking for implementing partners.

Tally's claim is too early. It cannot imitate the success of tally accounting package to selling ERP. The entire success of ERP lies in implementation. I do not see anyone in tally talking about implementation of Tally ERP. Every body is talking about sales figures. ERP is a different game. More than selling, successful implementation is very crucial. To get the data of successful implementation of tally erp we have to wait miniumum till december 2006 or March 2007 to know as to how many customers have gone live. Un like accounting packages, in ERP, the product is not the success, but making the product work for the customer is the success.

As long as ERPs are not for enterprise, but for small units, Tally will be more than successful. Enterprises will stick to their own solutions for complex algorihm.

Tally!!! By such a reputed name in the accounting field, with more than 90% of market share no doubt it has to be a success in ERP, the only bothering thing is of Service after sales. For Tally getting orders will no be an issue in any angle, enen the implementation should not be worring factor. As i said even before post sales support is what is a really important factor, which should be taken in account

Tally has been the most or rather only successful indian s/w product. However in the ERP market they may not be that lucky, having priced at 243000 for the product , they are still not clear what will be price for implementation. Every one knows the cost of s/w is only a small fraction of the successful implemention.,
