WatchGuard Looks to Upgrade Partner Network

By Archana Venkatraman
Mumbai, Nov 6, 2006

WatchGuard, the Unified Threat Management (UTM) solutions provider, plans to consolidate its channel community by graduating some of them to a new elite category as well as broaden its channel base to tap the market aggressively.

Currently, the company has channel strength of about 80 partners across India under its tiers of WatchGuard Associate Partner, Professional Partner and Expert Partner.

Ajit Pillai, country manager, said, "We want to acknowledge our partners and elevate some of them to Managed Security Services WatchGuard Service Partner (MSSWSP). Across India, we would shortlist about eight of our existing partners (mainly from the metros initially) on the basis of their performance and service and enable them to graduate to MSSWSP."

On the benefits for the partners in this elite tier, Pillai said, "This would enable them to expand their customer base, have a separate line of business called Service Business and value add rather than be mere box-pushers." He further added, "This consolidation is essential for expanding the partner community strength. At present, we are looking out for partners in the B & C category cities in the West, North and South zones."

The company, which opened a new office in Delhi in October 2006, also has retail plans. Pillai said, "We have got a lot of offers from partners wanting to tie up for retailing with us. The retail plan is at a very nascent stage, but we are considering to establish it by 2007."

The channel consolidation plans include training programs and inclusion of new set of partners. In terms of its distributors, the company does not plan to go beyond the existing Esys and Inflow Technologies.
What do you think of WatchGuard's channel plans?
