Western Digital Eyes New Frontiers

Hard drive manufacturer Western Digital (WD) plans to extend its footprints into new territories and industry verticals for its desktop range of hard drives, apart from venturing into new segments.
The company recently authorized Delhi based Champion Computers and Venktron Digital Systems to push sales of WD external hard drives. Sharad Srivastava, director of sales, WD India and South Asia, said, "For the last many years, Mediaman has been doing our WD external drives business exclusively. To cater to the growing demand for external drives, we have decided to add two more distributors.
Srivastava added, "With the appointment of Champion Computers and Venktron for external drives, we will further accelerate our hi-end volume business for the desktop range of hard drives into new geographies and industry verticals."
WD is on the verge of completing its last year's self-initiated WD Contact Program. It was started with the objective to build up WD's channel partners in 50 cities across India. As of now, the program has covered 38 cities. According to Srivastava, WD can easily cover the remaining 12 by the end of June this year.
"After establishing the strong foundation of channel partners, and streamlining our distribution and express services business, we may also venture into retail and SMB space in the coming times," added Srivastava.
Currently, WD has seven nationwide distributors spread across India, specific to different regions and customers: Mediaman, Champion Computers, Lalani Infotech, Jupiter International, Compuage Infocom, Venktron Digital Systems, and Inspan Infotech. WD also has eSys Information Technologies and Ingram as value partners.
