Western Digital Shifts Focus to New Segments
By

Mumbai, Dec 8, 2007
Viewing the opportunities in the enterprise and SMB segments, Western Digital - the storage device manufacturer has announced its strategies to capture these markets.
After having a strong foothold in the home segment, the vendor is now eyeing the growing corporate market. Discussing company's plans, Sharad Srivastava, director (sales) of India and South Asia, Western Digital, told ChannelTimes , "We have identified select partners catering to this segment through our on going WD Contact Program."
The company is in talks with channel partners across the country. "We are constantly meeting partners based in metros and smaller cities. We see a lot of scope for growth in B and C class cities, as this region promises huge potential for revenue generation. Also, the number of storage applications is growing here. We seek channel support to target the audience," said Srivastava.
During his first visit to India, while talking about WD's plans for Indian market, Scott Davis, vice president for worldwide sales of Western Digital products, revealed that the company is planning to invest heavily in this country. "In the last few years, we have invested on services. We provide service through third party and we also offer door-to-door services for our customers. This year we plan to increase the headcount in India," informed Davis.
"We are well placed in the home segment with our different storage devices. The demand for external drives is soaring high, making it a volume business. Apart from this, we also have different products catering to the needs of enterprises. To establish a market in this segment, we need to educate the audience about the WD's product offerings," said Davis.
The company has recently completed its series of road shows in almost 50 cities. WD intends to target the needs of customers based in B and C class cities. It is in talks with different assemblers to have a greater reach in the market.
