Zenith To Preload Symantec Software

By ChannelTimes Staff
Mumbai, Jan 17, 2007

Symantec has issued a 12-month license to leading PC makers, Zenith Computers, to install the enhanced firewall Internet Security 2007 software on its entire range of PCs and laptops.

Billed as the first of its kind, this arrangement to cost Raj Saraf's company marginally will be effective across Asia Pacific and Japan (APJ), Michael Yell, director consumer/OEM channels-APJ said.

Ajay Verma, director-channels and alliances, said, "This tie up with Zenith will provide the end customers a complete internet security suit and will cater mainly to the consumer desktops and home segment".

Under the tie-up, all PCs and notebooks from Zenith would be preloaded with the security software for 12 months starting January 26, 2007.

"Whatever marginal cost incurred will be absorbed at our end and the PCs and laptops will continue to be available to the end customers at the existing price," Saraf said.

Yell said bundling Norton Internet Security 2007 with all Zenith laptops and desktops will help spread awareness about security especially among the home segment.

Symantec launched Norton Internet Security 2007 in October, 2006 to provide automatic safeguards through enhanced firewall as latest findings revealed that home users are the most targeted group for fraud and other financially motivated online crimes.

Verma attributed the partnership to Saraf's foresight and concern for his customers.

In response to whether Symantec will issue 12-month licenses to its other OEM partners, Verma clarified, "This is not a one-size-fits-all strategy and thus we do not know about any tie-ups with other vendors."

Saraf added that the lowest priced Zenith PC would be available for Rs12, 500-13,000, while the laptops will start at Rs. 27,000.
Will Zenith benefit from this initative?

Zenith can also take a big leap and lead by providing Linux loaded Computers. For example Zenith + OpenLX can be a winner in Desktop-computing segment and with Kalculate, it can be great in SMB segment

Zenith has zero failure i think you need to check or may be you are just promoting their business, they don't even have a proper product in place forget failure rate, i think you need to have a look at iball laptops then i think you would understand what i am talking about they are far with more features & more cheapers also in the long run to maintain them. Just because someone gives you a bundled software it does not mean the hardware becomes good if it is not.

Definitely Zenith would benefit this tie-up as this would eliminate the service calls to almost nil, because Zenith products have negligible component failure.
