TCS Offices Safe, Reaches Out to Tsunami Affected

By ChannelTimes Staff
Mumbai, Dec 29, 2004

TCS offices and global delivery facilities in Chennai, India, and other areas are safe and functioning normally.

Communication facilities are working normally and disaster recovery systems are on high alert and have functioned efficiently as designed. The infrastructure is functioning normally for scheduled customer visits, the company said in a press release.

The Tsunami tidal wave, caused by the strongest earthquake in the last 44 years off the coast of Sumatra, Indonesia in the Bay of Bengal, has hit many parts of South Asia and Southeast Asia, causing widespread damage to life and property in many parts of this region. In India, the coastal region of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Pondicherry, Andamans, Car Nicobar and Kerala, besides parts of Indonesia, Thailand and Sri Lanka, have borne the brunt of this cyclonic storm.

In keeping with its tradition of rushing help in times of national calamities, as seen during the earthquake at Latur in Maharashtra in (1993) and at Bhuj in Gujarat (2000), this time too the company, along with its employees, is sending out aid and relief to the affected.

TCS is attempting to provide help in the following ways: to channelise collection of clothes, medicine and essential items and to dispatch them; to assess what area in this broad spectrum of relief work TCS can focus on; to identify volunteer work groups with which TCS can associate itself; to collect voluntary contributions from TCS employees; to provide contribution from TCS Ltd.

The relief effort will be part of the coordinated response from Tata Group companies. All TCS employees in the tsunami-affected area are safe, the company said.
What do you think of TCS' gesture?

Cant Ratan Tata, one of the richest indians afford to open his purse strings? Does the virtue of charity touch only his employees and not himself?

The TATA house is the most philantropic group in India. It is the group policy not to advertise their philantropic acts.

One should be aware that 3/4 of TATA group's profits go for charitable causes. TATA is the most active corporate group which worked for relief after LAtur quake. Therefore please help, instead of posting such useless messages. Many of TATA group employees (including 20,000 from my own) have already donated 1 day salary. May God bless us all.

I really appreciate TCS employees OVERWHELMING SUPPORT TOWARDS THIS CAUSE. it is a request that please do not send used clothes - if the same is being sent please ensure the clothes are washed and pressed - (present requirement is for dhotis / sarees / shirts / children wear etc) secondly if medicines are being sent please ensure that the medicines are bought directly from pharmaceutical organizations or their authorized distributors - this is because of my experience had during bhuj and latur earthquake incident ( MEDICINES WHICH WERE BOUGHT AND SENT HAD OVERSHOT THE EXPIRY PERIOD) Thanks once again, May GOD bless you and your families with lots of prosperiety, wealth and Bright future Happy New year Dear TATA TITANIANS A note: Please pray that this kind of natural calamity should never occur again anywhere in the world
