Roop Technologies to Enter Networking, Add 5 Offices

Roop Technologies, the Mumbai-based distributor of LG, Viewsonic and Mercury, has chalked out plans to enter into distribution of networking products.

Umang Mehta, MD of Roop Technologies, said, "I foresee a huge potential in this segment. We will get into this segment in the next four to six months."

He said that the company is also looking at opening marketing and sales offices in five locations in the South and North - Delhi, Chennai, Bangalore, Ahmedabad and Thiruvananthapuram. "These won't play the role of branches since after the implementation of VAT the country will be unified, logistically speaking. Managing the company from one place will be a lot more easier." It will continue to focus on the Soho and SMB markets.

Mehta, who started his business around 18 years ago as an importer, said that the branded PC is likely to rule the market in the coming years. "I see two-three Indian players and two-three MNCs operating in India. We might also see the emergence of many regional players in the market. In fact, such a trend is already visible in different parts of the country," he said.

Mehta also spoke about how he had built his business, after stints as a computer engineer in Nelco and Sujata Electronics, starting with a 200 square-feet shop at Lamington Road. He had started by importing products from Hong Kong and Singapore, and supplying to OEMs like Zenith in India. "We started with a few lakhs of rupees and now have grown the business to over Rs 45 crore with branches in Aurangabad and Secunderabad, and a showroom at Lamington Road."

"The market scenario was such that there were very limited players, margins were high, and nobody operated for margins below 25-30 percent. If you were selling directly to end-users, then margins were as high as 50 percent. However, the volumes were very low," he added.

Mehta was upbeat on the IT industry, saying it would overall witness a growth of over 35 percent. "At Roop Technologies we are targeting a growth double that of the market over 50 percent, almost touching 70 percent," he said.

"I want to tell the channel: We are in the business to earn money. Look at the bottom line of your business and have the courage to say no to business that is not profitable. Profitability is a must in every deal we do," he advised.

I do agree with the views of Mr.Mehta, on profitability. It is very crucial for ensung future prospects. a lot of us in the channels look at volumes without ensuring profitability of operations and cashflow considerations.

Good to hear, but there are more than 100 players like Umang, who have much better Turnover and better Vision, but i fail to understand why is he given so much publicity, he may be doing good in Mumbai mainly into trading

By opening office at Trivandrun ROOP Networking products will not get any market share even after 5 yrs because here DLINK is very stong ! more over customers will take your product and will not pay, cheque bounce, you want to go for court for settlement more over 2 association will kill you asking money and they will play politicls a lot. more over cochin is the main market rather than Trivandrum here also want to stuggle a lot. Be prepare a Legal advicer ready to come also for collecting payaments some "Gundas". hence money will be collected. IT Association can do nothing in your payments they will loot your money in advance. REMEMBER !
