Beginning of a New Dawn

Beginning

A great way to begin the New Year. The encouraging sops by the Centre has finally revived the hopes of the IT industry. From a neglected overpopulated country of a billion people, the attention has now focused on us being one of the two biggest markets of the world.

p____p After years of crying hoarse and haggling over concessions for the hardware sector, the recent announcements have brought in fresh hope and good cheer to the proponents and drivers in the hardware
industry.

p____p As the buying power continues to grow amongst consumers and malls, brands and cheap credit will fuel a consumer spending boom in a growing part of urban India. More importantly, the mindset of the channel
and buyers alike is changing to a belief that tomorrow will definitely be better than today.

p____p However, three cheers for the Indian consumer. The industry will finally witness the basic PC breaching
the Rs 15,000-price mark, which, in turn, will send sales skyrocketing.

p____p On a macro level, it can be viewed as a much-needed shot in the arm for the local manufacturing sector
that will also see signs of revival. Hopefully, like its software counterpart, the Indian hardware industry
would become globally competitive.

p____p When China was declared as the manufacturing capital of the world, India was identified as the services
destination. Now, with the pre-Budget concessions, the Indian hardware industry can confidently look forward
to take on the challenge of making India Inc. globally competitive in the manner that it was hoping for a
long time. All along, the government had been severely criticized about its illogical policies that hindered
the growth of the IT hardware sector. Not any more!

p____p With the growing confidence of the national associations and the power gained thereof in getting
the Centre to finally see things the hardware way, the industry should witness a clarity in the business and healthy competition between the assembled and branded segments.

p____p Amidst all the euphoria generated by the Mini-Budget announcements, it remains to be seen how the channel leverages the new incentives to make India a major international player on the IT front.
