MeitY Website Launches Dedicated GST Section For IT Products

Mumbai: In order to ensure preparedness for the Goods and Services Tax (GST) kick-starting from July 1, the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology has launched a dedicated webpage for facilitating taxpayers with regards to addressing issues related to IT services and electronic goods.

“The webpage can be accessed through ministry’s web portal http://meity.gov.in/. Individuals, companies and entrepreneurs in IT and electronics sector can visit the webpage for sector-specific information,” said an official statement.

With a dedicated section for the GST in the website, IT dealers and channel partners will have a hassle-free transaction of the GST. The dedicated pages also have the list of IT products and their tax family, a section for the business owners to share their feedback and grievances are included.

Cabinet Secretary P K Sinha has reportedly held a GST preparedness meeting with 30 ministries in which he asked them to organize outreach program and publicity campaigns through their departments and PSUs for explaining the provisions of the new indirect tax regime to their stakeholders.

Special Initiative For Training:

The IT Ministry recently had directed Department of Electronics and IT (DeITY) to use National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) facilities for imparting goods and services tax training. “NIELIT should be used for imparting GST training. If required, I will speak to Arun Jaitley (Finance Minister) on this,” said Prasad.

The Minister of State for Electronics and IT, PP Chaudhary has already written a letter to the Ministry of Finance to impart GST training through NIELIT, which runs its own 30 campuses and has around 10,000 franchisees associated with it.
