Protest At Xiaomi Mi Max Launch Event, Police Called In

Xiaomi’s special launch event held for its Mi Max smartphone in Delhi today turned violent when the fans protested over inadequate arrangement by the vendor . The launch event held at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium witnessed huge chaos when fans, invited by Xiaomi, started protesting over lack of seats at the stadium. The police had to be called in to control the mob.

According to the Times of India report, the company had reportedly invited around 50,000 fans while the venue could accommodate only 3,000.

During the launch of the Xiaomi Mi band in India last year, the company had given the band free to every attendee as a gift. The hope of gifts too attracted the large crowd at the today’s event. However, when Xiaomi reportedly announced that there might not be any freebies for attendees, the fans started protesting. Also, there were a large number of people waiting outside to enter the venue and the delay in registration further angered the fans.

The event, scheduled for 11.30am, finally started at around 12:45pm, after the police was called in to control the crowd. This is the first time that police had to called in for a smartphone launch event.

Xiaomi’s Mi Max comes with a massive 6.44 inch display. Mi Max is aimed at consumers who use 7-inch voice-calling Android tablets. The device offers the display size which is almost similar to any 7-inch tablet while keeping the comfortable form factor of a smartphone.

On the specifications front, the Mi Max sports a Full HD display and is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 SoC. It runs Android 6.0.1 operating system. The device comes with a 16MP rear camera with PDAF and a dual-LED Flash along with a 5MP front camera. Powered by a 4,850mAh battery, the device supports Quick Charge and offers 4G, Bluetooth, GPS and Wi-Fi along with other regular connectivity features.
