Smarterhomes Technologies, a utility automation company that provides smart water metering solutions has expanded its presence across three new cities, including Pune, Mumbai and Ahmadabad. This is in line with the company’s committed plans to establish its footprint in Tier 1 cities across India by 2020. With this launch, Smarterhomes will be functional in 7 cities including Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai and Coimbatore.

India has over 15 million apartment units in 55 cities currently. All over the world, there are more than 50 million apartment units having an apparent need for a water metering solution. With the ever increasing urban population, there has been a huge rise in demand for apartments and residential complexes in cities across the world, thereby posing a massive pressure on the amount of water supply needed.

Vivek Shukla, CEO and Co-Founder, Smarterhomes Technologies said, “We are happy about the growing awareness among consumers on the need to take action to safeguard from an apparent water crisis. In less than four months, we have received inquiries from over 200 apartment complexes in Pune & Mumbai region. With rapid population growth and severe climate changes, the issue of water scarcity is a growing one. Smart water meters play a crucial role in intelligently managing water usage and bring conservation consciousness to ensure a better water future.”

Started by Kasturi Rangan and Vivek Shukla in 2014, Smarterhomes empowers individual users to monitor, control and optimize their water consumption in real time. Smarterhomes’ core product ‘WaterOn’ is a robust solution that measures water consumption in individual apartments.

WaterOn, an IoT product, is an automated smart water meter offering accurate metering, leak prevention, and long life. It’s the only end-to-end solution providing real time readings to the consumers to help them prevent wastage and save money.

Funded by Macquarie Bank Ltd, London, Smarterhomes has installed 15000 meters across Bangalore, Chennai and Hyderabad. The company also has presence in South East Asia, Australia & New Zealand, Middle East, and African region.

For people living in high rise apartments water comes at a huge cost. It not only includes the cost of purchase of water from water tankers but also the cost of pumping it up to the overhead tanks.

Designed specifically for apartments, WaterOn has two benefits, One, it allows each individual household to keep track of its water usage and reduce wastage, and two, it helps beat the standard practice of collecting a common flat rate from all houses as water bill, regardless of usage. Data from the water meter can be monitored through WaterOn mobile app. The app also notifies the user of any leak or in case of excessive use.

Smarterhomes offers two models – One that costs Rs 9,499 has remote leak plugging and shuts the water supply completely if the family is not at home and the other that is priced at Rs 7,499 alerts you of consumption on an hourly basis apart from generating other data. They also have a monthly subscription plan ranging between Rs 45-120.
